The .exe is over 300mb, a telltale sign of Denuvo's presence. You wouldn't know that by looking at the store page, though, as it's conveniently not mentioned. I guess I'm skipping out on yet another glorified rental with a built-in kill switch. At least there's some kind of native Linux test branch on SteamDB, so maybe we'll eventually get a Linux version, which wouldn't have Denuvo.

After installing a 4090 I wanted to run it through its paces with various games like Cyberpunk 2077, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Horizon, etc...
One of the still very demanding 4k games out there is Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice. Even with a 4090 you see some scary dips. In general, it's a 70-95fps experience at 4k with this card.
I played through this at release and was positive on it but also in the camp of 'walking simulator, shallow experience' as a heavy offset in opinion.
During this 2nd playthrough, however, it's really shone through as an engrossing gaming experience. The combat segments are short-lived but stylish and painless. Exploring the environments is a great combination of being totally stumped and requiring you to peer into every detail and take in the audio. It really allows the atmosphere to build upon itself. Also, as a huge fan of over the shoulder perspective, I think Hellblade is up there with Resident Evil 2/3 Remakes in terms of mastery. It makes walking down a hallway an experience to enjoy in itself, even if there is little to interact with in the environments themselves.
I still think the biggest misstep is not making the ending segment as memorable as it could have been. They just opted for more mobs to cut through instead of a cinematic boss fight, as well as the awkward Abercrombie male model insert at the end which I felt was off the mark stylistically. However, I'm kind of blown away at how polished this experience is as a perhaps already labeled walking sim.
I watched the trailer for the sequel and am hoping for the best. If you make any upgrade to GPU or screen, I think think the original game is a good showcase. Curious to what people think of the game today though.
