u/pothehorse Oct 18 '21

Fuck...

Now if it were New York Pizza tho... i'll accept that tho

124

u/Nasty2017 Oct 17 '21 Helpful Table Flip

I fucking LOVE pizza from New York. Every time I'm there I visit my favorite old pizza haunt. Little place called "Sbarro's". Not sure if you've heard of it.

28

u/Prestigious-Cod-5404 Oct 17 '21

New York style pizza kicks ass. Absolutely love it.

8

u/propernice Oct 18 '21

I honestly that Sbarro's was just cheap mall pizza, wow. Last time I had it was in the 90s and I was a kid, before our mall food court got revamped. I've never thought about it again. Nice TIL!

2

u/high240 can't meme Oct 18 '21

No I mean from the Dutch company New York Pizza

Never been to New York

2

u/InfiniteDiscipline35 This flair doesn't exist Oct 22 '21

0

u/AdritoTheDorito Oct 18 '21

Sbarros is a worldwide chain and its a pretty big deal.

14

u/thor-ragnorcock Oct 18 '21

Its a joke from the office r/woooosh

8

u/CommanderPotash Oct 18 '21

What of they hadn't watched the office? Does that still count? Because that's just them not getting a reference, not them missing the joke.

1

u/TylerIQ Oct 18 '21

Well you're on r/memes which has tons of content from The Office. Also, Sabarro's is a national with a location in almost every mall in the United States. The onus of understanding sarcasm lies with the audience, not the person telling the joke.

33

u/nopunterino Oct 17 '21

I'm Italian and New York pizza slaps, it's chain pizza that is a no no

15

u/high240 can't meme Oct 17 '21

the Dutch New York Pizza im talking about

of course we all prefer the real pizza

but if you'd have to pick a chain, New York > Dominos

3

u/Drockie5 Dirt Is Beautiful Oct 18 '21

Domino's isn't all that bad for the price to be honest, got a pizza for like €4,- and it tasted pretty good. New York Pizza is better but Domino's is not the worst.

6

u/DigMeTX Oct 18 '21

Saw a vid on the net (probably Buzzfeed) with native Italians trying American pizzas and commenting. Some of the good ones they were like, “This is really good.. I would eat it again alone in shame.”

A milano c’è ne sono un po’! Onestamente non è male, quando vuoi una pizza più usa style!

60

u/ModingusKhan Oct 17 '21

It's for american style pizza. Pizza in Italy is almost completely different.

50

u/secretbudgie Grumpy Cat Oct 17 '21 edited Oct 17 '21 Hugz

Dominos representing American cuisine is about as accurate as Dominos representing Italian cuisine

-33

u/ModingusKhan Oct 17 '21

I said American style pizza. American cuisine is an oxymoron.

7

u/secretbudgie Grumpy Cat Oct 17 '21 edited Oct 18 '21

If my only exposure to Italian, French, or German cuisine was out of a truck stop freezer, I might assume that was an oxymoron too.

-12

u/ModingusKhan Oct 17 '21

American cuisine is a giant mashup of other countries cuisine. I'm not saying it's all disgusting, I'm saying it's not a thing.

6

u/Opalusprime Breaking EU Laws Oct 18 '21

Are you dumb?

3

u/WitchKingeVartigern Plays MineCraft and not FortNite Oct 18 '21

He's not wrong.

3

u/mackattacktheyak Oct 18 '21

Everything everywhere is a mashup of different cultures from history. He’s not “wrong” but he’s not right either.

Many Italian dishes use ingredients that were imported from The Americas. Does that mean that Italian foods with tomatoes don’t count as Italian cuisine? Of course not.

1

u/WitchKingeVartigern Plays MineCraft and not FortNite Oct 19 '21

Food identity is way stronger in European countries than it is in the US. I believe this to be a given. Therefore he has a point.

2

u/secretbudgie Grumpy Cat Oct 17 '21

Dont Europeans cook with tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, squash, pumpkins, artichokes, etc? Food cultures don't evolve in a vacuum. The difference is America systematically erased theirs between 1607-1968 and had to start over.

1

u/GullibleSector5811 Oct 18 '21

So America dont eat vegetables???

1

u/secretbudgie Grumpy Cat Oct 18 '21

I mean... that's a problem for another conversation. We fat.

My point is one can't call out a country for borrowing crops and techniques from other nations while said nations are doing the exact same thing. I only mentioned new world crops to emphasize how very new their incorporation into European food culture is.

1

u/GullibleSector5811 Oct 22 '21

Yeah fair enough.

But fuuck me european foods are better than burgers and fried wings and shit

3

u/[deleted] Oct 18 '21

Having only eaten Domino's, can you please share how Italian is different ?

2

u/T0biasCZE Oct 18 '21

American pizza is thick, pizza has thin dough that it almost cracks and has Fever toppingdls https://kitchenheads.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Italian-Pizza-vs-American-Pizza.jpg

-7

u/WitchKingeVartigern Plays MineCraft and not FortNite Oct 18 '21

Dominos pizza is really pizza lol

8

u/Cheesyduck126 memer Oct 18 '21

Yea but if someone's become very used to American processed foods ( I think I saw a post on r/unpopularopinion about how olive garden spaghetti is better then spaghetti from italy) they'll look for brands they recognize McDonald's burger king etc.

Isnt the "real Italian pizza" as we know it today come from America? Like, Italian immigrants back in the 19th century popularized it in America and when later American tourists came to Italy and couldn't find the pizza they are used to some local entrepreneur realized that you can make money from American style pizza instead of making shit pies and selling them to the poor. Like, the real "real Italian pizza" for most of its history was considered a garbage food for the poor.

1

u/wavyWwhite Oct 18 '21

Yes you’re absolutely right. Just like the peking duck was invented in Ohio, and burritos were invented in Finland.

4

u/Anarchkitty Oct 18 '21

10

u/HoxxAuthCode Oct 18 '21 Silver

If you fear being rejected by your crush when you confess, remember that there's a Domino's in Italy.

18

u/fuzzy-logic69 Oct 17 '21

Italy..... There's Domino's and Pizza Hut in New York.... Really, New York where crappiest pizza is billion times better then anything Domino's will ever make!

3

u/Dixie-Normiss69 Oct 18 '21

I wonder how many times people have walked by and tipped the first moped over to start a domino effect on the others.

2

u/Howiebledsoe Oct 18 '21

There is a certain breed of tourist who will not touch anything new. They’ll drink Bud Light in Bavaria, eat McDonald’s in France, Hershey’s chocolate in Switzerland, and Dominos pizza in Italy.

2

u/JoannaJ243 Oct 17 '21

why does this even exist?

23

u/SnuSnuLover Oct 17 '21

So Americans can have some real pizza during their vacation in Italy, obviously

14

u/BoiledPNutz Oct 17 '21

There’s clearly more than just American tourists keeping this location open

Italy pizza isn’t as good as NY pizza. Been there and I’m Italian. Not close.

14

u/Buv82 Oct 18 '21

I just want to make sure I read that right. You are Italian born and raised and you prefer NY pizza over Neapolitan pizza?

2

u/ieatair Oct 18 '21

This guys blasphemous

3

u/Buv82 Oct 18 '21

Either that or uneducated on the subject and like so many others thinks that what he/she has become accustomed to is the real thing. NY pizza is a prime Example

2

u/ieatair Oct 18 '21

Yea either he comes from multiple generations of Italian-AMERICAN or first-generation Italian that disowned the idea of being a real italian

1

u/Buv82 Oct 18 '21

Agreed. It’s heartbreaking to think that so many immigrants deliberately assimilated their children and in doing so robbed them of a culture that offers such a rich quality of life. Not to mention they don’t know squat about Italian food.

0

u/LoveTannedFitTomboys Oct 18 '21

I mean, the "real Italian" pizza came to Italy from America. Original pizza was basically shit pie for the poor made from leftovers from actual food. Then Italian immigrants created the modern day pizza in America and that made it's way back to Italy when American tourists couldn't find the pizza they are used to.

1

u/Buv82 Oct 18 '21

What exactly do you mean by modern day pizza? Can you provide any links to a text that can back this up?

2

u/TeemoBestmo Oct 18 '21

Neapolitan pizza

I personally hate it with the giant globs of cheese

1

u/Buv82 Oct 18 '21

As opposed to?

1

u/TeemoBestmo Oct 18 '21

as opposed to, no giant globs of cheese

1

u/Buv82 Oct 18 '21

2

u/dzizou Oct 18 '21

And here in brazil dominos it's one of the best pizza we got

2

u/JournalistBig8280 Oct 18 '21

Italy's greatest pride in the modern world is that Americans like to eat their food. They just keep acting like they're bothered about it to have something to talk about. Whack Italy is whack, preserve that architecture cuzzo.

0

u/LoveTannedFitTomboys Oct 18 '21

It's not even Italian food lmao, modern day pizza was created by Italian immigrants living in America.

1

u/Strong_Addendum_890 15d ago

What the hell is "modern pizza"? We eat the same pizza as always here in Italy, just more taste combinations.

Dominos is only in Milan and it’s not the classic shitty pizza, actually it’s pretty ok

also I don't get how they keep domino alive in Italy like there's no one there, ever

I had pizza in a restaurant in Italy (don't remember the name, but it was highly recommended) it was terrible. Disgusting if I'm being honest. In comparison, domino's is the best pizza I ever had in my life.
