Prove to a girl one day you're over 6 ft, go to a party the next day at 6'2 and mess with all the guys who are 6' exactly

860

u/LiliVonStoop9001 7d ago

On an unrelated tangent as a woman who's 5'4" I find it hilarious how many guys who are clearly shorter than me claim to be 5'6" like thats the minimal acceptable height for men to be so they gotta lie despite how obvious it is.

u/notagoodboye 7d ago

I’m an old nerd, and I tend to walk with the nerd slump, staring at my phone, which shaves a couple inches off my height. I also have the programmer slouch when I’m sitting down, which means I’m sitting low in my chair with my shoulders roughly the same height as my keyboard.

So, even though I’m quite tall, I’m often not in the “tall” category in peoples minds.

Whenever someone asks how tall I am, I say 5’11. It seems plausible, because people don’t think of me as tall, and who’d claim to be 5’11 instead of 6’?

I’m 6’3. It’s often hilarious.

At 6’4” I’m so much taller than everyone around me all the time that I’m not sure people would believe I’m 5’11”.

I’m surprised it works out for you, even slouching lol

41

u/iEatBluePlayDoh 7d ago

Say 6’1”. It’ll have the same effect. You’ll be visibly multiple inches taller than dudes who are 5’11”/6’0”.

15

u/GrumpyGuss 7d ago

Hey man, that's not fair, I gotta hang on to my inches where I got em

47

u/Dietmar_der_Dr 7d ago

Bro, fix your fucking posture. Especially if you're taller, you've got to treat your skeleton well so you don't end up with constant pain as you age.

Be mad at me, sign up for a gym, do deadlifts.

I wish we had that kind of height thing here in Sweden.

We use centimeters, and a usual cutoff here is 185cm (6'1") which is pretty average for a young native Swede, but it doesn't sound as nice as 6' and the joke would fly over everyone's head if I said I'm 185cm, because it's a bit of a stretch. But I'd totally say I'm 6' if Americans ask my height.

(I'm 6'6", 198cm)

13

u/notagoodboye 7d ago

I was blown away by being average height in Sweden. I actually started standing up straight.

11

u/abcdfghijklmnopq 7d ago

Averageish among young native Swedes*

We have a lot of non-natives and they're generally 3-5 inches shorter, so if you look up stats they'll definitely not say 6'1" average. Men aged 40+ are also closer to around 5'11-6' average.

It's also anecdotes, so my perception may be off by a bit from actual fact.

My best friend's husband is at least 6'5 at full height, at least, I come from tall people so seeing him slouch and droop to hide his height because it was "intimidating" (his mum is a psycho) used to drive me mental so I used to tell him, constantly to stand up straight and now he doesn't slump as much around me as much, helps my hubby is about 6'3, he also slumps, drives me insane just as much.

I asked him once out of sheer curiosity how tall he was and he shrugged at mumbled 5'10 which had me almost on the floor in a fit of giggles coz I'm 5'4 and the man is not a whole 6 inches taller than me on any plane of existence. And I looked him up and down and said no, really how tall are you and he was shocked that I didn't buy it until I explained that my dad was 6'2 and all my uncle's were over 6'3 so he's fooling no one with his 5'10 here.

Watching him say it and other guys go oh yeah makes sense I'm 6'2 when they're barely 5'11 though that was always fun

3

u/crynoking1 7d ago

Funnily enough I do the same thing except not as much of a change. From 6’3 to 6’1 lul. Height is talked about wayyyy too damn much in the college im in… lots of insecure people

Sure, being tall is great. Until you're in literally any form of transport.

Plane, window seat? You can press your shoulder blades into the aircon when you stand. Trains/busses? Watch for low hanging bars.

Cars? Be prepared to have your seat at a 60* angle.

Some houses? Watch for low hanging lights.

If you're tall and you've never had a headwound from something low, you're not that tall.

3

u/fakearchitect 7d ago

When I traveled in Asia I felt like a fucking giraffe bumping my head into every other door frame, but back home in Scandinavia many of my friends are taller than me, and things must be built a little… taller I guess, ’cause my head stays fairly intact most days.

Heightwise I seem to be just shy of 6.2 feet stacked together, using some comments in this thread as base for my calculations.

Not in a mean way, but people insist I’m taller than I am, I’m 5’10” on a good day with boots on, but my family and fiancé keep telling me I’m 6’. I’m not, we measure me every time we get into this situation. So I could probably lie about my height, but I don’t see a point in it.

Of all things that are bad in the world, there's no point anyone caring how tall anyone else is, or lying about how tall you are. It doesn't matter.

It does matter... People are social animals. A majority of people have different feelings or opinions about tall people versus short people. This impacts life to a noticeable degree.

6

u/SEND_INVENTION_IDEAS 7d ago

Life actually is just way better when you're tall. You're given way more respect by default, nobody makes fun of you for your height and oh yeah women are, by in large, significantly more attracted to tall men.

It's some wild reddit bullshit to pretend that height doesn't matter. I'm 6'1" and checking my fuckin privilege.

7

u/THEamishTRACTOR 7d ago

Yeahhhhh...I'm 6'2" and people always look at me like I'm in charge. Older women always ask me to do physical stuff for them, and I don't mind, but nobody asks short guys to help with stuff or expects them to take charge and it's really stupid how they view them as not as useful because of their height. It really does bother me tbh. All the people that were dicks to me in the past were short so they def deserve to be treated like dirt but other short guys are okay in my book.

3

u/Wasntbornhot 7d ago

This also happens to me at 5'8" but I have a deep voice

You can take it from me, being tall sucks. Acromegaly fucks your heart and ligaments, and you are never comfortable sitting down. Mostly my issue is with beds actually, my feet always hang off the end.

46

u/Signal_Skill9761 7d ago

We have this really tall manager at work (walmart), he is like 6'7" and he is ALWAYS so considerate if we need help getting something from a top shelf. He very easily could say "no, I'm busy find a ladder cart", but he doesn't. He always helps. It's so nice of him. But when I watch him bend over to have to stock something on a lower shelf, it always seems like such an event for him to bend down that far, I always want to go over and tell him "let me help with the short person stuff since you always help me with the tall person stuff". But I'm worried it would be weird. As a tall person, do you think that would be weird?

40

u/WeAreBeyondFucked 7d ago

As a tall person... hell no

22

u/Signal_Skill9761 7d ago

Awesome! It's just he always SO super nice about helping us. And it looks super uncomfortable for him to bend down to try to stock the very bottom shelf. And I'm short (5'4"), so that is right up my alley lol

On a slightly funnier note, we have a girl in my dept that is like 4'11". She was talking to him the other day and it was really funny to watch. He was like 2 feet taller than her.

4

u/Logical_Pop_2026 7d ago

Did he pat her on the head when they finished their conversation? I've always wanted really tall people to pat me on the head like that.

3

u/Signal_Skill9761 7d ago

He did not. Since he was a male manager and she was a female subordinate, that probably would have been looked on as incapable. Funny, but inappropriate.

6

u/RS-Ironman-LuvGlove 7d ago

5

17

u/shart-gallery 7d ago edited 7d ago

This, and shoe sizes! I work a second job at a bowling alley, and it’s hilarious how many men choose shoes that are clearly too large and don’t want to swap for a smaller size.

20

u/LiliVonStoop9001 7d ago

Not gunna lie, I'm on the opposite side of that spectrum where as a woman I'm slightly embarrassed about how large my feet are.

I rock a size 11 and all my friends and the other girls I've dated are like a size 6/7. I've learned to own up to it but it still gets to me sometimes, especially when shopping for new shoes cause a lot of the cute ones only go up to a size 10 :/

10

u/shart-gallery 7d ago

This sounds perfectly valid, honestly! Although it sucks that you’re made to feel bad about it by the standards around you. Lack of cute shoes does sound like the realest struggle though hahah

9

u/cupcakejo87 7d ago

I had a female coworker who had size 12 feet. She was also like 6'2", and she always complained about how hard it was to find cute everyday shoes.

But for "fancy" shoes, she figured out that she could buy shoes from shops/websites that cater to drag queens.

4

u/chewymenstrualblood 7d ago

Ahhh, the Peggy Hill solution.

2

u/cupcakejo87 7d ago

I did not watch that show, so never made that connection lol

3

u/chewymenstrualblood 7d ago

Oh, you should watch King of the Hill. It's fantastic.

Anyway, in one episode Peggy Hill (who has size 16 ½ feet) finds a place to buy fashionable shoes her size, which caters to drag queens. The plot is centered on Peggy befriending a drag queen she mistook for a woman, and the drag queen mistaking her for another drag queen.

Btw here is the eu numbers

Size 11 is 42 for EU

Size 6-7 is 36-38 for EU

Source: https://mapetiteshoe.com/shoe-size-guide/

3

u/Levierus 7d ago

The fact that you didn't mention it might mean you haven't caught on, but you can buy shoes in both gendered versions and that adds fucktons of options (at least for sneakers).

If you measure your feet in cm you can fully take advantage of this. You measure from heel to the tip of the longest finger and then you can use either the CM size (found on some sneakers/shoes) or the JAP ones (most shoes) which will either be directly CM (27), or mm (270). Now you can buy whatever kind shoes you want without wondering if it's a men's 11 or women's 11.

Be free from gendered shoes!

Source: Me. Size 11 sneakerhead that loves outrageous colored sneakers that apparently only women can get.

Same here, I wear shoe size 42 (which is like size 11 iirc) and have large feet so sometimes even 42 is too tight.

In shops I never ever find my size, but online it tends to be easier. Finding 43 women shoes is annoying too, gotta pay a premium for it.

I'm 180cm so my feet aren't that big, just trans woman life so we usually have bigger feet lol

u/NameIdeas 7d ago

What's the reason behind suggesting going down in size for half sizes. Generally, going down is too tight on the feet/can hurt while going up means your feet move around a bit, but you aren't getting squeezed. Is there something I'm missing?

You could just get a couple extra pairs. I'm sure prosthetics are ridiculously expensive though.

4

u/naughtilidae 7d ago edited 7d ago

My first leg was a bit over $24,000. Then another $7,000 for the pump system (that ended up just being extra weight...)

My current leg was about $7,000, including the socket (part the stump goes into) and fitting/adjustments. It's a running blade with a replaceable rubber sole. (made by Nike)

My legs are quite literally the most expensive thing I own. I'm a right leg below knee amputee, so I don't even have to have a knee, which can be stupid expensive. Thankfully I've got insurance.

The insurance has paid for 3 legs in total. Somewhere around the $50,000 mark in the 3+ years since the surgery. All cause they didn't want to approve a vascular surgery that might have saved the foot. Private insurance is run by psychopaths with an iq they can count on one hand, lol

If I had a prosthetic I'd figure some way to pack it full of goodies like Inspector Gadget.

Doctors hate this one weird trick!

14

u/Seranfall 7d ago

I think you've stumbled on a great weight loss plan.

"How much weight are you here to lose? "

"50 lbs"

"Ok so we are going to remove both your legs just below the hip. For a bit extra we can make you taller too!"

u/Upset-Cheek-3159 7d ago

And if you go with the new osseointegration method you can ditch the socket, liner and socks. Bonus, you look like a post apocalyptic badass

I saw a documentary of a woman without legs. She had multiple prosthetics of different heights and leg-type (thin, muscular etc).

her friends were jealous that she could have the perfect legs for any outfit.

u/shart-gallery 7d ago

She can just buy three-quarter pants and save 25% every time, and they're still the perfect length. Who knew it was such a money saver!

Skip to 7:10 on this video https://www.ted.com/talks/aimee_mullins_my_12_pairs_of_legs?language=en#t-454767

She talks about a funny anecdote at a party.

"What? you're so tall..." "Aimee thats not fair!"

59

u/alienblue88 7d ago

That’s a great video (actually watched it all) and she seems like an amazing, inspiring woman, but man alive, something about her method of speaking really does not work for me.

I was guessing she was nervous, but I looked her up and public speaking is her jam, so it seems she’s making a conscious choice to speak this way. It reminded me of those horrid speakers Apple gets for its keynotes these days with their hyperbolic phrasing and forced, artificial “excitement”.

u/Sir_not_sir 7d ago

TED has many coaches for the final product.

7

u/mayx 7d ago

Dude! I have the hardest time with that. Or the dramatic documentary voice. I’ll find a topic I’m curious about on YouTube and nope the fuck out when it’s someone talking about fish or whatever like it has dire consequences.

17

u/BeefyCheez89 7d ago

I mean, I only watched a few minutes to see what you're talking about, but she seemed to speak pretty normally to me. A little emphasis or whisper voice here and there, but not too egregious at all.

That seems like a nice thing to say to your friend with prosthetic legs but having actual legs is also pretty sweet.

Legs are overrated. I wish I could sleep without the tip of my feet being too long for the bed.

From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of steel. I aspired to the purity of the Blessed Machine.

Your kind cling to your flesh, as if it will not decay and fail you. One day the crude biomass that you call a temple will wither, and you will beg my kind to save you. But I am already saved, for the Machine is immortal…

...even in death I serve the Omnissiah.
