Suave looking cut
310
u/Felipeqs1409-- Feb 05 '23
What does "suave" means?
465
u/Bobolequiff Feb 05 '23
Something like charming and confident. If you've seen The Man From U.N.C L.E, Henry Cavill's character is suave.
174
u/oilpit Feb 05 '23
James Bond is the other obvious comparison (although U.N.C.L.E is the best Bond film ever made so that is spot on)
→ More replies3
u/mehrabrym Feb 06 '23
Are you being cheeky when you say it's the best Bond film ever made? Or are you saying it's somehow a Bond film?
8
u/oilpit Feb 06 '23
What I meant by my comment was, in my opinion, that film does everything a great Bond film should. I love Casino Royale, and Skyfall, but U.N.C.L.E just feels more like a classic Bond movie than any of the Daniel Craig installments.

I really enjoyed it.

Just try desperately to keep your gorge down regarding Armie Hammer the entire time and it will be a great action spy flick. It's so hard to watch anything with him in it and separate the content from the sexual violence and cannibalism, but if you can manage then it's an enjoyable movie.

suave /swɑːv/ adjective charming, confident, and elegant (typically used of a man). "all the waiters were suave and deferential"

In Spanish suave literally means “smooth.” Kind of like cool

I once heard there was a guy named Rico who was pretty suave.
5
u/eltedioso Feb 06 '23
False. He was Gerardo, and he was both rico and suave.

The Picture of Dorian Gray talks about how physical beauty is a valuable commodity because people will overlook moral vices when people are beautiful. Also when the beauty is suddenly lost this can be very difficult for those who once had it.

Oh, thank you, I knew about the halo effect but not the horn effect.
The way I learned about the halo effect was more along the lines of, people will assume/see other positive traits once they have seen one positive trait (typically beauty cause that's most immediately apparent), rather than they will overlook negatives, but those are very close and in fact it might be a distinction without a difference.

I just spend a lot of time wishing. It's hard to be happy knowing people have to live through such unjust circumstances and I can't do anything about it.

Awesome. I'm donating my hair later this year and this makes me so happy.
32
u/Rugkrabber Feb 05 '23
It’s a reason I no longer bleach or dye my hair so I can donate it.
18
u/SilkyOatmeal Feb 06 '23
I'm going to donate to Children with Hair Loss. They will accept natural looking dyed hair in otherwise good condition. I miss having purple and pink on my head but it's worth it.
3
11
u/lIIIIllIIIIl Feb 06 '23
Do you happen to know a good place to donate to?
35
u/itsmesungod Feb 06 '23
Me and my fiancée always donate to Pantene. Just don’t donate to Locs of Love! They charge the people for the hair that you donate for free. It’s disgusting.
I grow my hair out down to my ass and then I cut it to my shoulders or a little above, braid it up, and send it out. My fiancée does the same.
We do it about twice a year. It’s an awesome feeling, knowing you can make some little kid more confident and happy! This video reminds me why we do it.

Hey I just wanted to say your comment gave me the idea to donate my hair as well since I've been growing it out since the pandemic so thank you for the inspiration!
5
u/SilkyOatmeal Feb 06 '23
Oh wow great! I have long pandemic hair too. Lol. Decided I might as well do something useful with it.

u/Lotus-child89 Feb 06 '23 edited Feb 06 '23
I’m on my I think 9th donation since my teens. I’m 33 now. It’s longest I’ve gotten it since 15. All the way to past my waste. I didn’t want to have to chop it so short this round because I’m getting married this year and wanted to keep some hair to fix up in a bridal style. So I let it get this long so I could give ten inches and still have pretty long hair by the wedding. It’s going to feel good to finally cut it off. It makes my head feel like it’s floating for a bit after it’s cut off. I think I have a couple rounds left in me before I get too old and have to start dying over greys. They prefer untreated, solid color hair.
I donate to Pantene Beautiful Lengths. I used to give to Locks of Love, but was disturbed to discover they just sell off a lot of the donated hair to private manufacturers to make wigs for commercial profit and the charity has ridiculous overhead vs. actual charitable contribution. Not a good look for a charity. Pantene is more legit.
9
u/SilkyOatmeal Feb 06 '23
That's great! Yeah I was warned away from locks of love by my old hair stylist. Not only do they profit apparently but he said they were a pain to deal with. Congrats on your impending nuptials!
6
u/Lotus-child89 Feb 06 '23 edited Feb 06 '23
Thank you very much! We’re all very excited about it, especially my daughter! Lol
It’s good to hear of other people being charity conscious. I wish more were. There’s just too many charities getting away with corruption and making corporate level profits while returning little of actual value. People think I’m awful for resenting the Susan G. Komen Foundation, but they have a history of being very corrupt and donating little to actual research while claiming they only spread “awareness” while making big bucks for board members. Hair donation is such a great cause that’s easy to contribute to at no cost (skipping haircuts actually saves me money, so it’s win-win), but it’s important that it goes to the right thing and right people. This site is a way to ascertain which charities operate on the level you expect.
5
u/potchie626 Feb 06 '23
Fyi Pantene stopped accepting donations in 2018.
3
u/SilkyOatmeal Feb 06 '23

u/All-Cal Feb 06 '23
We’ll this haircut sure seemed to help. Also, from what I have seen kids are so much kinder these days than when I was growing up. I feel optimistic that from here on out things will continue to go well for this handsome young man.

Still better than a boy from an interview I watched a couple of years ago.
He was burnt when he was still a baby and his face has literally melted. Really, it looked like Jabba The Hut.
5
u/temps-de-gris Feb 06 '23
That is awful. How do the parents let that happen? I don't think I could live with myself.
5
u/snowfurtherquestions Feb 06 '23
There are absolutely scenarios where a baby suffers burns in which the parents are not at fault - e.g. car igniting in an accident.

Seeing this innocent, beautiful child feel such happiness and joy made me cry. I know that kids can be mean heartless, little bastards, and he’s going to have some challenges with that but he’s feeling pretty goddamn suave right now. Do you see the big smile when he put that wig on his head?! Awesome.

I feel so bad for him. A man I know had some of his skin shot off, and when a group of teenage girls saw him, they laughed at him. I can't even imagine how this kid is treated by others 😪
